Hello. I'm Daniel Vaughan. Welcome to my portfolio website! Creative Computer Games Design Graduate || General Artist and Animator

Since I designed my OC Cammie, I've always had a plans to animate her or make some short comics featuring her. The little sloth was originally concepted as a mascot for a games and media website (Button Bash Gamers) and as a big gamer myself  I've got this vision of her being an overly excitable and over-energetic gamer. When it comes to outdoors activities well her lazy-sloth nature then takes over. Unfortunately while I always start getting plans together something always comes around to slow the progress.

Recently however I've found the motivation to actually start animating again. Primarily the animations I work are of the short-looping variety such as character animations for character models and sprites or motion effects for web applications. At university I did have a 30-40 second animation of a character a parkouring though a simple hallway and have done some longer motion-capture sequences but little else in terms of telling a short story.

Above is the first of what I am hoping to be a series of short animations featuring Cammie the Sloth and my avatar alter-ego Flatty. The next step is to draw out the animation itself. At present the plan is to either use ClipStudio which I have recently been trialling or Adobe Animate which I am also pretty new to.

The plan is to update this blog post with updates as to my progress regularly.

So I created my avatar back in 2014 after university, 6 years on I think my style has changed quite a bit and my long hair has gone so I thought he could do with an update.

Around the time I created him I was really into Shantae and the Pirates Curse and loved the art style so my avatar was influenced heavily by that along with a number of other drawings at the time.

The idea now was to match him up more with my other characters, Cammie the Sloth and Nibs the Gerbil.

Really want to do some more with my Sloth Kid but referring to her by that all the time wasn't really ideal...So now she's taken the name of Cammie!

So started off the exploration with just a couple of quick profile views for the character. Used to do some modeling in Maya which recently I'm tempted to try out again so this might come in handy!

I also wanted to get more of a feel of her personality so I continued on with a character study sheet for her. Felt afterwards that I need to work on my facial expressions so next time I experiment with that.

Recently I started writing reviews again with the guys from GamersFTW and was asked to create a new mascot for the site. I thumb nailed out a couple of ideas for the new Button Bash Gamer mascot.

This character wasn't selected but I liked enough to continue it.

Also, as a bit of a test, I recorded myself drawing her up in Photoshop using my shiny new Gaomon tablet.

So recently I started writing reviews again with the guys from GamersFTW and was asked to create us a new mascot.

"The Button Bash Gamers, or BBGees for short, are a group of friends united by two passions: video games and writing. We have assembled like the New New Avengers to bring personal, light-hearted video game content to your screens."

We've dropped off a little recently but I'm looking to write something new very soon (just need to stop playing games and get on to writing about them).

So here's just a couple of designs for the cat game from early concepts to finals.

Final Animations

Updated: In July of 2020 @the_mrsnesbitt Was looking to freshen up her Twitch account as she was expecting to stream more often and was looking to pull in more viewers. The Idea this time was to drop the heavy Toy Story references in case it was pulled up by Twitches admin and to focus on a more casual look.

At the time I was experimenting  a fair bit with timelapses of the drawing process. When I mention this to Nesbit she was more then happy to see this for her request.

In addition to the revamp profile picture and social media banners new emotes were also requested. As these would be coming out at very small sizes (28px to 112px), they had to be designed to make it simple and clean to get what they were expression.

Original: @the_mrsnesbitt was looking to spruce her twitter account with a new profile picture so she asked me for some ideas…so this is what I came up with. She wanted her face in it somehow and was interested in a cartoonish style. The only other thing was she wanted to wave around her missing arm like Buzz Lightyear does in this scene.

You can check out her game streaming shenanigans via her Twitch channel www.twitch.tv/the_mrsnesbitt

Typical scene of me between drawing odd doodles or writing random games reviews. I wanted a some sort of drawing involving what I can do to use as a banner image for my social media accounts.
Of course it had to be being choked up with game and anime references. During the Euros 2016 I made a slight alteration to the scene....

Gabs Tanner is a games critic currently writing for We Got This Covered and her own personal blog Gabs Tanner Reviews. She has also previously written for Wales Arts Review and GamersFTW. “Writing has always been my go to device for connecting with the world, while exploring my personal opinions. Meanwhile, being a Critic gives the opportunity to make conversation, through sharing experiences with others.”

While at GamersFTW Gabs asked if I would be interested in designing her a banner image that she could use for her personal blog and social media pages. She stated that she would like the banner to contain no writing so that she could use it no matter who she was writing for, and that it should include a number of games references. The list giving included…“Alice Madness Returns, Persona 3, Zelda, Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, Tekken, Left 4 Dead, Katamari, Bayonetta, Splatoon, Borderlands (2/Tales from the), Portal 2, The Binding of Isaac, Bioshock (and Infinite), Castle Crashers, Don't Starve, Plants vs Zombies, Psychonauts, Space Channel 5: Part 2, Zoombinis”

While at GamersFTW I created a couple of banners for our various social media accounts optimising them for each outlet. These are a couple of examples for Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.
GamersFTW attended the odd event or two so I was also asked to create some promotional material to take along with us to boost the site.
